MARGAO: Stating that the digital platform will be a must, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday, appealed taxi operators to come up with their own app and to enroll on the digital platform.
Godinho stated this during the flagging off of the ‘Mhaji Bus’ Scheme with 25 private bus owners from South Goa on board. He said that the passengers travelling in the KTC buses will be able to get live, real time information regarding buses running under the KTC management on their mobile phones via an app as part of the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS), which will be operational within next six months.
The government has implemented ‘Mhaji Bus’ Scheme to improve the transport service in the State. Through this scheme, private buses will be hired to promote the services of the State-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited connecting far-flung areas and cities.
The Minister also assured to make Margao KTC bus stand, one of the modern ones and to adopt more buses under the ‘Mhaji Bus’ Scheme.
He said, “Now the government is in the process of developing an app for KTC wherein passengers will be able to track the bus. We are in modern times and have to use technology. People will benefit a lot through this scheme.”
Godinho further assured private bus owners that they can run their buses which have completed 15 years, if there are in good condition and disclosed that the government will launch a new scheme to replace old private buses.
“The government wants the transport system of Goa to run in a proper system. We will also try to make Smart transport in Panjim. By next six months, the whole system of transport will be changed provided the private bus owners offer their support,” he said appealing to tourist taxi owners to join the digital platform in running the taxi business.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat urged the Transport Minister to give a serious thought to make the Margao KTC bus stand a modern bus stand.
