ARAMBOL: Around 50 tourists, mainly foreigners, undertook a special initiative to clean the beach and roadside garbage at Arambol.
The cleaning initiative was organised collectively by Clean Nature Centre, Artist for Peace and Party Hunt and others.
A volunteer said that the initiative was undertaken to raise awareness amongst the local residents and commuters to keep the environment clean because it’s very much necessary for the future as well.
“We took this drive specifically in Arambol because we live here and this will continue for few more weeks,” he said.
CCTVs at the dark spots were installed to monitor the people dumping garbage as well as sign boards were erected giving instructions/warning to people.
Some of these tourists were singers and musicians, who participated voluntarily in the garbage collection campaign.
Those who had participated in garbage collection were provided vegetarian lunch, along with fruits and drinking water.
A representative of Party Hunt said that this was a social initiative to support the tourism of Goa as well as to keep the State clean. Such initiatives will be taken in other parts including Anjuna, Vagator, he said.
A Russian tourist, Tito Alexander, said that each person in the village should see that he/she throws the garbage in dust bins and not on the streets or beaches. “We want to change the situation and make people understand the importance of protecting the environment.”
