PERNEM: The ongoing taxi strike due to the tussle between the government and the cabbies on the GoaMiles app-based taxi service has inconvenienced the tourists visiting Pernem who were forced to travel in buses or walk their way to reach their respective destinations.
In absence of taxis, domestic tourists were seen exploring Pernem beach belt on rent a bike, rent a car service and even some on private vehicles. Taxi operators in Pernem coastal belt have kept their taxis parked and refuse to accept tourists.
But some tourists managed to hired rent a car service while most of them who were unable to hire bikes and cars, were found travelling in buses. It was also noticed that tourists were forced to walk almost 2 to 3 kilometres to board a bus.
Prabhat Naik, a local said, “We cannot say as to who is right or wrong because several youth are in the taxi business and if their business is affected then they would be jobless. Government should take decision taking into account the advantages of the issue.
“Government is up to finish livelihood of locals. CZMP, GoaMiles issue, rise in illegal construction, migrant influx etc all these things will end Goem and Goenkarpon,” a local Suresh Salgaonkar warned.
