CALANGUTE: A speeding car which burst its tires crashed into a road divider in front of the Calangute church, rolled over four times and crashed into another car coming from the opposite direction in the other lane, leaving two tourists from Tamil Nadu seriously injured on Saturday morning. The car was badly damaged.
According to eyewitnesses the car was coming towards Calangute on Chogm road when the driver lost control of the rental car due to a tire burst and the car hit the divider and flipped over four times, crashing into an oncoming car in the next lane. The accident occurred at around 7.40 am.
The injured tourists, identified as Rachel, 18, and Nashik, 19, were rushed to the district hospital in Mapusa. From there they were later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where they are undergoing treatment.
The driver of the other car, a tourist taxi, escaped unhurt, though the car was damaged. Calangute police said they are yet to record their statement because the tourists are injured and not in a position to talk
