VASCO: An experiment in a laboratory went horribly wrong when 10 students of a school in Vasco fell ill after inhaling sulphur dioxide on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the incident took place at around 9.30 am when the students were taken to the school laboratory to conduct an experiment in the presence of a teacher.
The students were conducting an experiment and as they opened a container of sulphur dioxide, 10 of them accidentally inhaled toxic gas.
“After some time, the students started complaining of nausea and giddiness. The teachers immediately alerted the parents and shifted the students to the Chicalim Cottage Hospital for medical attention, where eight students were administered first aid,” said a source in the school.
When contacted, Dr Prashant Suryawanshi of the Chicalim Cottage Hospital stated that the students were first taken to a private clinic and were later brought to the Chicalim Cottage Hospital.
“While eight students were discharged after administering first aid, two students were given IV fluids. All 10 children are out of danger and the two students, who have been kept on drips, will be discharged later in the afternoon,” said Dr Suryawanshi.
