PANJIM: Chetan Timblo of M/s Timblo Private Ltd, who is being investigated in the multi-crore mining scam, failed to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning on Monday. The SIT had issued summons on Timblo and Pausilipo Dourado of Dillan Mining Services to depose for interrogation in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The SIT last month issued summons to 15 mining traders to appear for interrogation between February 1 and February 12. Ghanashyam and Ajit Sardessai of M/s Ahilaibai Sardessai Mines; and Riyaz Shaikh of Nawaz Earthmovers were the first ones to be questioned. The investigation team suspects involvement of Sardessai in handling of dump of iron ore and Shaikh for purchase of unaccounted iron ore.
On Tuesday, the SIT has scheduled questioning of A X Poi Palondicar and Devendra Kamat, both from separate mining firms having their offices in Dabolim and Margao. Palondicar, was in December 2010 had come under the scanner of the Goa State Pollution Control Board for illegal mining at Colomb despite revocation of consent to operate.
