MARGAO: Margao’s new market traders on Tuesday gheraoed Margao Municipal Chief Officer over the incomplete works in the municipality’s new market and other long-pending issues.
The market traders have warned the Chief Officer Deepali Naik that they would shut down the market and take out a massive morcha against the civic body if their demands are not fulfilled within eight days.
Led by President of Margao New Market Traders Association Vinod Shirodkar, the traders questioned the Municipal Chief Officer on the incomplete work on the market shed. They also demanded to know the fate of the overhead tank, which the civic body had proposed for construction at the old fish market for dedicated water supply to the fire hydrants in times of fire emergencies.
Shirodkar warned that the traders have only come to draw attention of the Chief Officer to the long-pending problems plaguing the new market, while threatening to take out a huge morcha on the civic body after eight days.
Chief Officer Deepali Naik later told the media that the civic body would look into the grievances of the traders.
