PANJIM: The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes has asked all manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, dealers and other traders to make arrangements for cashless transactions at their establishments.
A circular issued by the department asks all traders to install Point of Sale Machines, QR code recognition and payment systems within 10 days to migrate to a cashless mode of transactions.
The circular also states that officers will conduct checks at all stores, hotels, dealers and other establishments registered under the Goa Value Added Tax, 2005, The Central Sales Tax Act, 1956, The Goa Tax on Entry of Goods Act, 2000, The Goa Entertainment Tax, Act, 1964 and The Goa Tax on Luxuries Act, 1988.
Commercial Tax officers of each talukas have been instructed to visit the business places and verify compliance and report to the commissioner within 15 days.
Goa is likely to become the first State in the country to go cashless from December 31. “Even though cash transactions are not being banned, it is in the interest of the State to encourage cashless transactions,” the circular reads.
