PANJIM: Panchayats Director Gurudas Pilarnekar on Friday confirmed that Panchayats across Goa will go cashless from January 1, 2017.
Speaking to Herald, Pilarnekar said that panchayats will try and stop accepting cash for house tax and other charges and encourage people to pay through cashless systems and for this a new system will be introduced. “Panchayats will soon implement POS machines and start accepting online payments so that it becomes hassle free for the people and in this regard we have had various meeting with banks on how this system can be implemented,” Pilarnekar said.
“We have also kept training sessions for panchayat secretaries and other members on December 9 where bank officers will address and it will be decided which system will be adopted to make panchayats cashless,” he added.
“Once the panchayats go cashless all government funds will be directly transferred via ECS, including staff salaries and contractor payments, and we will achieve this target” he added
