PANJIM: Liquor retailers in and around Panjim are preparing to pull down shutters after the State government made it clear that retail outlets will face the axe of the Supreme Court orders. Retailers anticipating the worst had already stopped purchasing fresh stocks and are now wary about the alcohol that will remain unsold after the March 31 deadline. A retailer near the Old Patto Bridge said he is trying his best to get rid of the stock. “I’m trying my best to sell out all the stock and I have not purchased any new stocks. But whatever will remain will be my burden as I will not be able to sell after March 31,” he added.
A retailer on the CHOGM road, asked if returning to the wholesaler was an option, said wholesalers have refused to take back stocks. He said, “Neither will we be able to sell nor will the wholesalers take the stock back. We have to bear the burden of loss due to the stock which will remain unsold after March 31. Right now I have no solution to this problem.”
