MARGAO: Carmona Panchayat inspected the blockage to Zalor beach allegedly by a hotel on Friday following complaints from locals.
However, hotel representatives did not participate in the inspection despite being intimated about it and hence the inspection was carried out by the Sarpanch, panchas, secretary and locals.
Stating that the inspection was carried out following complaints from locals, sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said it was noticed that concrete poles have been dug and barbed wires are passed through them thus creating a fencing that blocks the traditional access that people had to the beach.
He pointed out that this issue was hotly debated at the last two gram sabhas and observed that the concrete poles have been erected in the Coastal Regulation Zone area and added that the inspection report will be discussed at the next panchayat meeting.
Admitting that there is a dispute over Zalor beach jurisdiction, he said the panchayat would write to the concerned departments to resolve the issue and added that they would move the High Court to stop any construction in the disputed area.
