PANJIM: The Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) has slammed the government for changing their stand with respect to mechanical beach cleaning. It warned the Government that it would come on the streets if this environmental scourge of a project is not scrapped “in toto.”
“The Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar had clearly mentioned on the floor of the House that mechanical beach cleaning would be scrapped and only manual beach cleaning would take place,” Agnelo Rodrigues, GRE president said.
Rodriguese also criticized the Tourism Department for their illiteracy and insensitivity towards sustainable environment and tourism, despite the report given by Goa State Biodiversity Board which clearly mentions the damage that mechanized cleaning will cause to ours coasts.
“GRE will not allow any mechanized beach cleaning, as it will not only damage marine life and its regeneration but also add to further deterioration of the coast line thereby leading to complete sand erosion,” GRE alleged.
