PANJIM: The traditional fishermen community have reiterated their demand to the Government and Fisheries Department to provide them compensation for losses suffered due to the capsizing of numerous fishing boats this season.
While over 75 fishermen have been rescued in the last two months in 15 incidents of a boat capsizing in the sea, the fishing community pointed out that the labourers are now scared to get on to boats given the recent developments.
Against that backdrop, these ramponkars groups such as Goencho Ramponkarancho Ekvott have urged the Fisheries Department to coordinate with them better with regard to rough sea/weather updates and general assistance with helping fishermen who have lost their boats get back on their feet as their livelihoods are at stake.
