Traffic breather for city as IFFI inaugural in Bambolim

PANJIM: With the opening and closing ceremony of the 45th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) being shifted to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium, at Taleigao plateau, Panjimites may have temporary relief from heavy traffic congestion at least on these two days – November 20 and 30.

For the smooth movement of vehicular traffic, the traffic cell has demarcated a plan, wherein dignitaries, invitees and others will enter the venue either via GMC Bambolim road or Dona Paula-Goa University road. Traffic police have made it clear that no road would be closed or dedicated only for the vehicles coming to attend the ceremonies. 
Deputy Superintendent of Police, (Traffic) Dharmesh Angle said that a parking space to accommodate over 2,500 vehicles has been made in and around the stadium. A total of 5,500 guests are expected to attend the opening ceremony of the festival. 
Some 240 policemen would be deployed at the stadium and at the Kala Academy, Panjim where the opening film will be screened. 
Angle said, “The parking for the invitees with passes would be inside Kala Academy, while for other invitees and general public, the parking lot will be at the Sports Authority of Goa and Parade ground, Campal.” 
Some 50 KTC buses are being deployed to ferry delegates and other invitees to the stadium and from there to KA. 
Meanwhile, for the smooth movement of vehicular traffic during the festival period, elaborate traffic arrangements have been made.
For the opening & closing ceremonies at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao Plateau on November 20 and 30 respectively, traffic coming from North & South Goa (except Panjim) will come via NH 17 and on reaching GMC Bambolim take Goa University road and proceed to the function venue.
Traffic coming from Panjim will be diverted at Miramar towards Hotel Goa International to proceed to the venue via Caranzalem-Dona Paula. On their return journey they should take the road from Dona Paula to Miramar.
The INOX lane (General Bernard Guedes Road) road leading to D B Marg from Panjim market along INOX complex will be closed near CCP market complex for the entire period of 11 days.
Car passes will be issued by ESG indicating the category of the pass and respective parking lots.
The parking lots identified for the Opening and Closing Ceremony are VVIP – inside Dr  Shyama Prasad Stadium; VIP, Media & OB Van – In the open space adjacent to the stadium towards GMC; Officials and delegates coach – In the open space opp SPM Stadium; Invitees – In open space near Goa University for invitees coming from Dona Paula, Jubilee Hall and opp ETDC for invitees coming from GMC side.
At Kala Academy on Nov 20, VVIP, VIP passes in the Kala Academy parking lot.
