PANJIM: In wake of the recent accident at Verna which claimed the lives of four labourers from Bihar and left same number of persons injured, the officials of Traffic Cell of Goa Police visited multiple companies across all IDCs in the State.
According to a statement issued by SP Traffic Rahul Gupta, IPS, the officials held meetings with management of the companies and instructed them to procure breath analyzer test units (alcometers).
The officers also mandated conducting breath analyser tests for drivers of buses transporting employees and trucks used by their firms to prevent such incidents in the future.
“The officials also met individual corporations too. All IDCs will be visited within next few days. At higher levels, we are sending letters to take IDC Chairman and Director on board,” he said.
The IDCs which were visited by the Traffic Cops included Kundaim, Tivim, Pilerne, Corlim, Tuem, Bicholim, Verna, Honda, Canacona and Cacora.
In a shocking incident, a bus carrying the employees of a private firm rammed into temporary huts at Verna IDC, killing four labourers and leaving four injured on May 25, 2024.
As per reports, the driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the huts. However, the occupants inside the bus escaped unhurt.
