MARGAO: Road proceeding towards Margao railway station from Rawanfond is experiencing heavy traffic due to the absence of traffic police and the growing instances of traffic congestion is likely to cause major accidents.
One of the reasons for traffic jams is goods-laden heavy vehicles entering into this area despite being prohibited for unloading goods.
“In the city of Margao the number of vehicles on the roads is on the rise and there is no proportional increase in the number of roads and also policemen. So, traffic jams are bound to happen,” said a retired head constable, who was attached to the traffic cell.
The truck drivers entering into this area with loaded goods on busy roads show an appalling disregard for any kind of traffic law. “Heavy vehicles loaded with goods stop as and where they wish and enter into no entry area, thereby getting into arguments with other motorists in the middle of the road, etc, causing havoc for the daily commuters, on this road,” said Prasad Sawant, a citizen.
The residents of Rawanfond, Shantinagar and Davorlim proceeding towards Margao or heading to Navelim through internal road are facing a tough time travelling on roads as there has been an increase in the traffic for the last few days, especially in the morning hours.
Sometimes due to heavy traffic congestion, vehicular movement comes to a standstill for a long time and they see nobody from the traffic cell to manage the smooth flow of traffic.
