PANJIM: A traffic constable was attacked by another constable and his wife early Saturday morning. A video of the attack has gone viral on social media. The assault that occurred in the premises of police colony at Porvorim has raised concerns over the safety of the personnel.
Porvorim police have registered an First Information Report against the constable and his wife for assaulting the traffic constable, while a counter complaint by the alleged accused lady against the constable is pending registration.
“The woman complained that the traffic constable tore off their scooter’s seat and made obscene gestures at her, because of which they beat him up. The traffic constable has denied the allegations but we are in the process of registering this offence. The assault on the traffic constable is already registered against the couple,” Porvorim Police Inspector Paresh Naik told Herald. The duo has been issued a notice under Section 41 of CrPC with police officials contemplating disciplinary action against the constable attached to the office of a DySP.
The case against the couple has been filed under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons, etc), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. On the other hand, the traffic constable is likely to face charges under Sections 354 (A) (sexual harassment), 509 (insult to modesty of a woman) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
The video that went viral on social media shows that the two constables allegedly entered into a verbal duel and seconds later the wife of the constable intervened and begins assaulting the traffic constable with a stick. She was joined by her husband and she thereafter gets another household article to assault the traffic constable.
The person purportedly recording the video allegedly called out to the traffic constable’s wife who rushed with her infant to save her husband. They all are seen arguing when another man comes in and tries to separate the two couples.
