PANJIM: A police constable was killed and his was wife injured in a fatal accident at the Gaundalim junction on Friday morning after he was run over by the goods carriage vehicle.
The accident occurred at 9.30 am in the morning when police constable Pradip Parab working in traffic section of Goa police and resident of St Estevam died on the spot after coming under the goods carrier vehicle. The driver of the goods carrier Yoganand Naik has been arrested and has been handed over to the Old Goa police. Wife of the deceased Parab was shifted to GMC after the accident and was discharged after treatment.
According to the police, Parab was heading for work with his wife on Friday morning. The goods vehicle which was heading to Corlim IDC from Gaundalim on reaching the junction suddenly made a turn. Not noticing the sudden turn, Parab crashed into the heavy vehicle and suffered grievous injuries to his head and was declared brought dead at the GMC.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and booked for rash and negligent driving and Old Goa police are currently investigating the case.
