SANGUEM: Consequent to a report in Herald on November 13, the officials from the traffic department swung into action and clamped several vehicles parked at No Parking zones in the Sanguem town area.
The sudden action of the traffic officials caught the citizens off guard and they were seen running to the officials for getting their vehicles unlocked.
Incidentally, this is the first time that the traffic officials have resorted to the clamping of vehicles in Sanguem. Earlier, the law breakers were issued challans directly by the head offices based on the CCTV footage.
Ironically, immediately after a couple of hours of the clamping operations, a youth association based in Sanguem submitted a memorandum to the Sanguem Municipality urging the authorities to do thermoplastic marking of the designated places for parking and No Parking and then proceed with punitive action.
President of the NGO Amar Naik claimed that due to non-marking of the designated areas with thermoplastic paintings, the citizens are unable to notice the areas marked as No Parking Zones.
Naik also urged the municipality to provide sufficient parking spaces for the people in Sanguem before going ahead with the punitive action.
Lauding the municipality for the installation of the requisite sign boards all over the town area, Naik claimed that some of the sign boards are not visible and needs to be erected at the right place.
