PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said that traffic discipline and garbage management will be part of the school curriculum and that the government is chalking out various plans to curtail road accidents.
“The government shall take one measure that is introducing traffic discipline and garbage management as part of the primary and secondary education” Parrikar said at the inauguration of the new library building of Mahalaxmi Vachan Mandir.
“The government is also trying to find a solution for problems identified during the detailing process. We have realised that teaching the young generation traffic discipline is one step that can go a long way to prevent accidents,” he said.
Parrikar said students would also be taught on segregating garbage. “It is important for students to know the importance of segregation and further treating garbage”.
We also should tell them that if we don’t tackle this problem now, we would be pushed into the piles of waste,” Parrikar added.
The chief minister said that during his visit to Sonsodo, he found that the shed that was constructed to segregate garbage has been buried under heaps of waste. “We found that the shed was almost 40-50 metres down in the garbage dump. This means that a lot of garbage was created that the shed itself got buried into it,” said Parrikar.
