Traffic jam at Cujira as schools re-open

PANJIM: The roads remained jammed near Cujira School complex as hundreds of students joined their respective schools for the first day of the academic year on Thursday.
After a month-and-a-half long summer vacation, the schools reopened on Thursday. The first day of the school was accompanied by heavy pre-monsoon showers, which brought much needed respite from the soaring mercury.
The first day of the academic year saw parents dropping their children to the school at Cujira that reported heavy traffic jam. Police had made elaborate arrangements, but failed to control the unexpected traffic that arrived in the morning.
The non-completion of ring-road near the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) seems to be the major reason for the congestion, since there is no smooth flow of traffic.
“The traffic mess has always been an issue here.  We do not see much effort being taken by police. The promise to develop the entire educational complex providing better amenities has also been left unfulfilled,” said a parent whose child is studying at Hegdewar School.
Besides existing schools like Dempe Higher Secondary School, Hedgewar School and Higher Secondary and Mushtifund High School, the complex has also seen the opening of Anjuman High School, which has added to the existing load.
Though the government had assured to ease the traffic at this complex by opening up the exit, nothing seems to have changed on the ground for the last one year.
