PONDA: Commuters were left stranded in a massive traffic jam along the Shiroda-Ponda route for one-and-half hours on Wednesday morning.
The commuters complained that traffic jams have become a regular feature in Shiroda for the past many days on account of the ongoing underground cabling work and complained that on Wednesday they were stranded for one-and-half hours.
Shailesh Naik, a Shiroda resident said, “The government spent crores of rupees on development but at the same time it should progress at a rapid pace without causing any hardship to commuters and locals. Two days ago the route witnessed serpentine queues of vehicles following a traffic jam however the locals intervened and managed to clear the route.”
He said, “There should be proper signboards. The roadside trenches have narrowed road width and so the government needs to expedite power cabling work to prevent accidents. Besides there is dust pollution and also water pipelines have been damaged while digging trenches, which has caused water shortage to the locals.” He charged that the non-Goan contractors are not bothered about hardship caused to the locals.
He urged the government to adopt proper safety measures and lessen the burden of the locals while carrying out developmental works.
