Traffic jam jeopardises day plan on Friday

Commuters to and fro between Panjim and Margao stay stranded at Cortalim junction, Goa Velha bypass for hours

MARGAO: Commuters traveling to Panjim from Margao and Vasco and those heading in the opposite direction on Friday were stuck in a massive traffic jam caused due to congestion at the Cortalim junction and the bottleneck at the Goa Velha bypass.

In Verna, commuters took nearly an hour and a half to cover the distance from Kesarval to the Zuari Bridge. People traveling by bus also complained about how it took over two hours to reach Panjim from Margao.

Similarly, commuters who were stuck heading towards Margao/Vasco were stuck at the Goa Velha bypass on the Agassaim side and faced similar congestion from there towards the Zuari Bridge.

While commuters took to social media to vent their fury, locals of Cortalim also complained about the difficulties they had to face in crossing the road etc due to the serpentine queues of vehicles not only on the highway but also on the internal roads too. Locals also pointed out that these kinds of traffic jams increase in frequency during the monsoon and said they fear what will be the condition when the monsoon begins given how bad the traffic jams have been during these pre-monsoon showers.
