MARGAO: The Borim bridge on Monday witnessed a traffic jam for nearly an hour-and-a-half on both the sides following the closure of one of the lanes.
From September to April or May, tourist season is at its peak in the State. Several tourist vehicles enter and exit Goa through Borim. One of the lanes will be closed for traffic from Oct 21 to 30 on account of bridge maintenance. On the first day, vehicles queued up on both sides.
“Borim Bridge being repaired during the day time has resulted in massive traffic jams either side of the bridge. Stuck in traffic for last 1 hour, bridge repairs should be taken up at night and not during the day. Hope the concerned department will take note of this. Just came to know that these repairs will continue till October 31,” said Goa Forward Party vice president Durgadas Kamat.
The PWD has confirmed there is no issue with the bridge as the tar upper layer, which was degenerated is being repaired. As a second option, motorists were asked to take the Rachol ferry. “There are 2 ferries here and the last ferry is at 9.20 pm. After this, there is no other option than to get stuck in the traffic,” complained Avez Xec from Shiroda.
