VASCO: The government’s decision to announce a lockdown led to mad rush and traffic congestion in Vasco till Thursday evening as people rushed with their vehicles to the Vasco markets. Despite the heavy rains and surge in cases in the port town, there were long queues as essential commodities were in high demand. This led to a traffic jam on the streets with parked vehicles all over from the Chicalim circle to Vasco town.
One customer at the market, Puja Tilaskar, said she had come to buy various food related items. She added that she doesn’t like being in a crowded market but had no other option to come on Thursday itself as she was not sure if the lockdown would be extended beyond three days.
Another customer Emraan K said he got delayed with the traffic jam, which he attributed to panic buying. He said that as he reached the market late, he got whatever was available. Like many other markets in Goa, the stock started getting over owing to the high demand on Wednesday and Thursday.
