MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has slammed the State government for forcing locals and tourists to endure marathon traffic jams at the Cortalim junction and rued that such incidents had sullied the image of Goa as an international tourist destination.
Sardinha was referring to media reports about the daily traffic jams and said it was unfathomable that commuters are stuck for two hours at Cortalim.
“Many people were unable to catch their flights at the airport. They have lost their hard-earned money. Who from the government will be responsible for this,” Sardinha added.
He questioned why the traffic police cannot use technology to get real time updates about the congested routes so that they can manage the flow of vehicles better.
He also criticised the Traffic police, especially in the northern coastal belt like Anjuna for not having alcometers to nab those who are involved in drunken driving.
He also urged the State government to sort out the long-pending pension of seafarers immediately.
