QUEPEM: The Tilamol Traffic Cell has launched a safety and enforcement drive at the accident-prone Tilamol junction, following Herald’s Thursday report on the chaotic traffic situation at the spot, which is frequented by school students.
Acting on the complaints raised by parents and other road-users, the police are cracking down on the haphazard parking of vehicles around the junction.
“We have stepped-up our safety drive here and are clamping all carelessly and illegally parked vehicles that lead to traffic jams and raise safety concerns for pedestrians. We are also issuing challans and collecting fines from violators,” said Tilamol Traffic Cell Police Inspector Manoj Mallik.
Herald had reported about several fatal accidents that have occurred at the junction, and despite repeated complaints to the Xeldem Village Panchayat and other authorities namely the Quepem and Curchorem Municipalities, no measures were taken to improve the safety of the busy junction.
“We have received many complaints about the illegal and irresponsible parking of vehicles and trucks in this area, and began the drive four days ago, to bring in a disciplined parking system and help regulate traffic around Tilamol school and junction,” added Mallik.
