Traffic police collect Rs 5.10 cr in fines from traffic violators

PANJIM: The Traffic Police have collected almost Rs 5 crore in fines since beginning of the year 2023 till date against traffic rule violators from across the State. The cases booked are mostly for not wearing helmet and over-speeding.

The North District alone has booked nearly 42,000 cases of Motor Vehicle Act violations. The Traffic Police North Goa has collected over Rs 2 crore in fines. 

A review meeting was held by the top officials of Goa Police and Traffic division to review the traffic situation of Goa due to a recent spurt in cases of fatal accidents.

The North and South Goa Traffic police have collected Rs 5.10 crore in fines for various violations. The traffic cell of Goa Police have held an urgent meeting to discuss the traffic violations and have further decided to tighten the noose over traffic violations. 

Superintendent of Police Traffic Bossuet Silva, Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddhant Shirodkar and Police Inspectors handling traffic cells across Goa attended the meeting. 

The frequency of accidents on Goan roads is showing no signs of reduction. The traffic police through enforcement are attempting to control the same. 

However, even as the police make efforts to control the violations three major accidents happened in the State which claimed two lives. 

In an accident at Sirsaim a two wheeler rider died after a mini pick up dashed into his vehicle instantly killing Shailesh Nanodkar, 45 from, Nanoda. 

In another accident that occurred near Bodgeshwar temple in Mapusa, 62-year-old Jagdish Shetkar from Cuchelim died on the spot. A man was trapped in a four wheeler after he met with a self accident in Sirsaim.
