MAPUSA: A pipeline drilling machine overturned while it was being put down on the ground from the trolley near St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The drilling machine was bought to carry out the work of installation of underground power cables.
However, absence of traffic police constable at the spot caused traffic congestion. Later, a traffic constable was deployed at the spot, who tried to make the traffic movement smooth but was unable to so as it was the peak time.
“There were no safety measures in place while carrying out such works. The road should be closed, no traffic should be allowed and should have had traffic police to control the traffic. The area should be cordoned off and the vehicle should have been removed, but there are hardly any safety norms that are followed,” a local commuter said.
