Traffic snarls at Colva
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, DEC 31
Colva was plunged into utter traffic and parking confusion on Friday evening as thousands of domestic tourists headed to this popular beach in South Goa.
Huge serpentine queues of vehicles were stranded on the road for want of parking on the last day of the 2010. Tourists complained of absence of accommodation as the tourist village was flooded by domestic visitors since the last three days.
The tourists –who came in their private vehicles and buses – were highly critical of the government for not making adequate arrangements for vehicular parking. They pointed out that it is high time the government make the necessary arrangement for parking facilities near the beach.
Colva Deputy Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes said that the village witnessed parking and traffic snarls after the Tourism Department issued NOC for the use of its space for a function.
“This has further aggravated the parking problem this year”, he said.
The Colva police were seen trying to streamline the traffic and parking near the Colva square as they anticipated thousands of visitors later in the evening to celebrate the New Year festivities.
