MARGAO: Traffic to Cavelossim was disrupted the whole evening as a huge banyan tree near the petrol pump at Benaulim came crashing down blocking the road entirely and traffic had to be diverted via Maria Hall or via the road leading to Our Lady of Livrament chapel.
The tree fell at around 3.30 in the afternoon and Reshma Kenkre Superintending Engineer of Electricity Department who hails from Benaulim was at the site within an hour as the electricity lines got snapped in the tree fall.
While she got her department officials galvanized to restore the power supply the fire services arrived at the site late and began clearing the fallen tree and were at it till around 7.30 pm.
