Tragic Collision at Haneda: Japan Airlines Plane Engulfed, Coast Guard Aircraft Crash Claims Lives

A Japan Airlines plane caught fire on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, following a collision with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft. The aircraft erupted in flames during its skid down the tarmac.

Japan Airlines confirmed the successful evacuation of all 379 passengers and crew members. The affected flight, JL516, had originated from Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, landing at Haneda at 5:47 pm, as per Flightradar24 data.

Unfortunately, reports indicate that five people aboard the Japan Coast Guard plane involved in the collision have lost their lives. The captain of the coast guard aircraft is reported to be in critical condition.
