Tragic Incidents Plague Dairy Farming Family in Mandrem

Pratima Premanand Korgaonkar, a dairy farmer in Madhalamaj, Mandrem, is currently enduring a series of heart-wrenching events that have left her family in despair. Adding to their grief, Pratiman’s son is physically challenged, making the situation even more difficult.

First, one of their calves was brutally beaten, leaving the poor animal severely injured and in need of immediate medical attention. A dedicated animal husbandry veterinarian is presently overseeing the calf’s treatment. If this wasn’t enough, a neighbouring farmer, allegedly killed a second calf.

Additionally, another calf from Pratima’s farm was subjected to a similar act of cruelty and is currently receiving treatment under the care of the Mandrem Animal Husbandry Department.

The repercussions of these incidents extend beyond the suffering of the animals. The Korgaonkar family’s possessions, including their cowshed, chairs, and doors, have also been damaged in this ongoing nightmare.

Pratima took action by filing a complaint at the Pernem police station, seeking justice for the injured calf and demanding a thorough investigation. He however claims that the police have not forwarded reports to the local animal husbandry department for further investigation.

In a desperate plea for help, Pratima has reached out to the Chief Minister, raising concerns about possible political involvement in the matter and urging for swift police action. She has also called for a postmortem examination of the deceased calf to shed light on the circumstances surrounding its death.

Questions remain about how, after a complaint had been filed regarding the beaten and injured calf, another calf was killed the very next day without apparent intervention from the law enforcement authorities.

This unfortunate sequence of events has left the Korgaonkar family in a state of uncertainty about their future in the dairy farming industry.
