BAMBOLIM/PORVORIM: Tiswadi taluka was hit by triple disaster on tragic Tuesday, on Boxing Day, a day after Christmas. Eight vehicles were involved in the three accidents. Luckily no fatalities were reported in the accidents on NH 66, both at Bambolim and Porvorim.
In the first accident, on NH 66, near Military Camp, Bambolim, a mini pickup rammed into a mini electric car. Both the vehicles which were moving in the same direction, were badly damaged. The mini pickup fell on its side after the accident. No injuries were reported. Both the drivers compromised and no case was registered. There was a huge traffic congestion due to the accident. Agasaim police rushed to the scene to conduct the panchanama for the initial accident.

When the police were conducting the panchanama and clearing the road for vehicular traffic, an SUV coming from Panjim unexpectedly rammed into the police vehicle from behind, resulting in a second accident. Front right side of the SUV was damaged, while the back part of the police vehicle was damaged. The woman driver told Agasaim police that she suffered from a black-out due to which the accident occurred. The woman driver was booked under Section 279 of the MVA for rash and negligent driving.
Head constable Prashant Naik is investigating under the supervision of PI Vikram Naik of Agasaim Police Station.
The dual accidents not only caused traffic disruptions but also raised concerns about road safety on Bambolim highway.
The third accident occurred on the Porvorim slope near Damian de Goa showroom. A Telangana-registered car drove on the opposite side and rammed head-on into a motorcyclist and two other Goa registered cars which included a taxi causing major traffic congestion.
Besides the driver, there were three other occupants in the Telangana-registered car. The accident occurred at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. The motorcyclist received minor injuries, while the tyre of the car burst after the accident.
Porvorim police stated that although an alcometre test was conducted on the Telangana driver, it turned out to be negative. He was driving towards Mapusa while the other three vehicles were coming towards Panjim. A case has been registered under the MV Act and ASI Sanjeev Salunke is conducting the investigation under the supervision of Porvorim PI Rahul Parab.
