Trajano demands review of provisional NOC granted to Sunburn organisers

PANJIM: Political analyst Trajano D’Mello on Monday demanded that the government must review the provisional NOC granted to the organisers of Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival in view of the High Court of Bombay ruling that the permissions to the Sunburn event last year was illegal.

D’Mello demanded that Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte should resign owing moral responsibility or he be sacked by the Chief Minister. The High Court verdict on Sunburn festival has exposed the connivance between the government and event organisers, wherein permissions are granted overnight or on the opening day of the event, he said.

D’Mello claimed that the High Court judgment has vindicated his charges since 2014, that the government had been illegally gratifying the nuisance caused to the general public by the mega event organisers.

Slamming the Department of Tourism, D’Mello said that the flouting of rules and Department of Tourism turning a blind eye and deaf ear to the blatant violation of the rules demands an explanation from the Tourism Minister as he is accountable to the people.”

Accusing the EDM organisers, D’Mello said, “Drugs are being peddled at the mega event wherein two innocent girls lost their lives due to suspected overdose. The High Court considering his charges had directed the government to sanitise drugs within a radius of 500 metres. Is this being done? Will the present orders be followed?” he demanded to know.
