QUEPEM: Around 200 people from five villages of Gudi Paroda Panchayat jurisdiction along with NGO Aadi Velip on Monday demanded with the State government to transfer the Hindu crematorium land to the Mahdev Devasthan Mullem Trust, which is on the government land under Survey No 195/50 namely Konshet, at Mullem-Talewada.
Aadi Velip leader Vinay Velip said, “The plots, admeasuring 3,825 sq mts are equally distributed among the five villages, at Talewada, which belongs to the government is clearly mentioned and shown in Survey No 195/50. The villagers want the government to transfer these plots to the
Mahdev Devasthan Mullem Trust.
A villager, Neha Gaokar said, “We are worried about the increasing migrant population at Talewada and fear that they may encroach on the government land. It’s also a concern to women’s safety and security in the near future.
Another villager, Pankaj Velip said that on this issue, the Devasthan Committee had submitted a memorandum to the South Goa Deputy Collector Revenue, Chief Minister, Secretary and Gudi Paroda Panchayat on January 14, 2021 but till date no rely has been received and had also asked for an information under the RTI Act with the Panchayat but the local body denied saying that we cannot give detail on this matter under the Act.
The Hindu crematorium plot is mostly used by the locals of Talewada, Gudi, Zariwada, Karegal and Kalekar Gudi and for the last many decades all devasthan mahajans and various religious functions associated with it such as Shimgao, Holi and Gadde ustavs and other devasthan functions commence from this land, every year.
The villagers say it is a holy place and want the State government come with a solution as early as possible for the betterment of these five villages.
