MARGAO: Several police personnel, including sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, and constables who had received transfer orders several months ago, have finally been relieved of their duties.
It is reported that during a crime meeting held in Margao recently, a senior police officer directed the in-charge of police stations to immediately relieve the transferred personnel if they had not been relieved already.
As a result of this directive, several police staff have taken charge at their new police stations.
Sources within the police department revealed that in Salcete, where there are five police stations, several police staff have not yet received their transfer orders despite serving at their current police stations for over seven to eight years. Police transfers are necessary to prevent political affiliations and curb corruption, apart from boosting efficiency.
One transferred official alleged that a head constable who was recently promoted to Assistant Sub Inspector from the Margao police station, has never been transferred outside of Salcete. Sources said that he was once transferred to Quepem, but landed back in Margao, at the Women’s Police Cell after only two months, and then was posted at Margao PS yet again.
Additionally, it is alleged that there is a constable at Margao police station who has not been transferred for many years, while another head constable at the Maina-Curtorim police station has also camped at the same police station for years.
In Salcete, only Colva, Maina-Curtorim and Cuncolim police stations have lady police sub-inspectors. Cases of rape and kidnapping registered by other police stations are referred to them for further investigation.
