MAPUSA: There are over twelve transgenders seen operating in Mapusa who pester commuters and locals for alms which is slowly turning into a menace. At the same time there are many fake ones extorting money from the public as it is the easiest way to earn a living. Earlier they would come clapping and begging for alms, which has now turned to demanding for alms.
The activists of Swaraj Gomantak condemn the nuisance created by Transgenders in Mapusa and also caution local authority on the growing number of them being witnessed in the town of late.
On Friday, the activist of this group filed a complaint at Mapusa Police Station regarding the large number of fake transgenders operating in Mapusa and surrounding areas who try to loot the general public by cursing and swearing. The activists demanded strict action in this matter.
An active member of Swaraj Gomatak Mapusa, Pravin Asolkar revealed that these transgenders are increasing in Goa and have suddenly grown in numbers at Mapusa. If refused money they behave rudely and aggressively with people. They are earning nothing less than Rs 10,000 a day.
“It is high time the authority looks into this issue or the state will be full of them. They are moving in the market, buses, visiting houses and demanding money from people. They have noticed they are able to fleece money by swearing and cursing. They are not happy with a small amount given and demand for amounts as huge as Rs. 4,000,” he said.
The activists of Swaraj Gomantak demanded that be sent back from the placed they hailed.
