PANJIM: The Transport Department has taken a suo-motu cognisance of a video wherein a four wheeler failed to give way to an ambulance that was on an emergency call, on Wednesday. Transport Director Rajan Satardekar informed Herald they will issue a show cause notice to the car owner on Thursday and penalise as per the provisions of the law.
In a 1:09 minute video, which went viral, was reportedly shot by an attendant in the 108 ambulance. The Quepem registered car GA-09-D-5678 is seen speeding all though the stretch along Velsao-Cansaulim and even overtook another car, but an unknown car driver did not give way to the ambulance.
“The ambulance siren was loud enough for anyone to hear. Other vehicles made it convenient for the ambulance to use the road but the car continued to block the emergency vehicle. The ambulance had a patient who needed emergency treatment,” said a witness.
The police also swung into action and traced the vehicle. The car has been impounded by the police and further action will be undertaken on Thursday.
It was not known whether the ambulance reached the patient to the hospital in time and the patient’s health condition.
