PANJIM: Taking cognizance of the Herald news report on Thursday about the touts at the Regional Transport Office of Panjim, Director of Transport Nikhil Desai has asked for an inquiry and has directed the assistant director of transport to submit the report.
Speaking to Herald, Desai informed that he has already initiated an inquiry into the news report which appeared in the Herald daily. He said that people should come forward and complain to the department or the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Vigilance department so that malpractices can be curbed.
“I have also asked assistant director of transport to control such touting activities and clean the system in the office”, Desai mentioned.
Speaking further, Desai said that public interface needs to be reduced and this can be done with the help of IT.
He said that the master plan has already been approved by the Transport Minister and is waiting Finance Department’s approval.
“We have held almost seven rounds of the meetings with the IT and GEL (Goa Electronics Limited). We are already up to the task and government is very keen on doing it. We have launched the complaint App which is one way of ensuring transparency,” Desai added.
He said that the majority of the malpractices will be reduced once everything will go online.
“With the help of App we have given the power to the common man. It will take some time, I have given a deadline of six months to complete the task,” he informed.
The moment the IT initiative will be implemented, not only department load will be reduced and at the same time people will get good services, Desai added.
Herald in its Thursday edition had reported how the touts and the people within the Transport Department are accepting bribes to do the work by bypassing the system.
