PANJIM: Former Vigilance director and now Transport Director Arun Desai was quizzed by Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Vigilance department on Thursday in connection with the Rs 1 lakh bribery case in which a peon attached to the Transport director’s office was arrested while accepting bribe.
Desai, who had earlier served as Vigilance Director, arrived at the ACB office at 4 pm and was quizzed for almost an hour by ACB officers.
In a shocking revelation, the peon Dattaram Gawade alias Damu, disclosed the link of the Transport department’s Deputy Director Vishram Govekar in the case. ACB sources said that Damu, who is under arrest and been remanded in police custody for 12 days, will be produced before a magistrate to record his statement under Section 164 of the CrPc.
ACB had quizzed Govekar three days ago and said that the investigation in this case will hit the right door as they are trying to reach the root.
ACB officials on August 28 had arrested Gawade from the Transport department in Panjim while accepting Rs 1 lakh from an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector (AMVI) to settle service issues he was facing.
