MARGAO: The Salcete Truck Owners Association has warned that truck owners from the taluka will block all trucks transporting bauxite ore from Naqueri if the authorities do not follow the first-come first-serve norm in the transportation of ore.
Addressing the media, association president Franky Gomes said that local truck owners from Naqueri cannot demand preferential treatment over truck owners hailing from outside the village. “We are opposed to any move to give preferential treatment to the Naqueri truck owners. They cannot demand two trips and different rates for ore transportation. All truck owners should be treated equally”, Franky said.
When asked what would be the future course of action if authorities succumb to the demands of the local truck owners for two trips and different rates, Franky shot back, “Truck owners from Salcete will block all bauxite trucks in Margao. We will not allow any truck laden with bauxite to proceed to Vasco. It is for the authorities to handle any law and order problem”.
Association treasurer Rajesh Naik said that truck owners from Salcete will not sit quiet and watch the Naqueri truck owners enjoying preferential treatment. ‘We appeal to the authorities to reign in on the Naqueri truck owners and reject their demand for preferential treatment. There cannot be two sets of rules.”
