Wild boar is usually slaughtered by the people for meat but the Parab family from Madpai, Marcel proved to be good Samaritans for a wild boar trapped in their well.
On Saturday at about 12 noon, Vidyesh Parab and his father Gokuldas Parab from Newwado Madapai, Marcel were cleaning their plot and noticed a wild boar trapped in the 25 feet abandoned well. After seeing the wild boar, the duo alerted the villagers who insisted that they would kill him for meat.
Parabs denied their demand and alerted the Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) Bicholim and the Forest Department when there was a commotion in the area. On receiving the information ARS chief, Amrut Singh along with Gautam Malgaonkar and Rameshwar Phadte went to the site and took stock of the situation.
The Forest Department’s bid to catch the boar in the cage by lowering it into the well proved futile as the well was very narrow and the boar was very furious. Amrut Singh later went into the well and skillfully trapped the boar with the help of a rope and brought it out unhurt.
The Bondla RFO, Deepak Betkikar and others appreciated the good act of the Parab family for rescuing the animal inspite of the public pressure to kill it.
Later, the animal was sent to Bondla wild life sanctuary.
