PANJIM: Any medical emergency in the capital city need not be rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) as a Trauma and Casualty Centre is on the anvil.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said this will be taken up on priority considering that the highest calls on 108 are from Panjim. A delegation led by former Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkalienkar had met the minister urging for such a centre in the city.
“Patients who are in need of medical emergency in Panjim are rushed to GMC. Once the Trauma and Emergency Centre is commissioned, patients will get immediate treatment here and accordingly shifted to GMC,” Rane told Herald after meeting with Kunkalienkar and team.
The Centre, he said, will be under GMC so that senior doctors could attend to the cases promptly.
While a follow-up meeting with Kunkalienkar is expected next week, Rane said they are looking for a property to start the Centre. “If we get a ready building, we will soon convert it into the medical centre or land will also do. We have taken this proposal on priority,” he said.
