PANJIM: A trawler seized by fishermen from Vasco for alleged LED fishing on Tuesday has taken a new twist with the trawler owner filing a police complaint stating that his boat was intruded by some people led by notorious Satish Achrekar, who allegedly demanded ransom of Rs five lakh from him.
All Goa Fishing Trawlers Association President Harshad Dhond on Thursday told reporters that trawler owner Muzafar Bashir Mujawar approached them for assistance.
He said that Mujawar in his complaint has stated that the intruders were speaking fluent Marathi. Denying that his boat was indulging in LED fishing, Mujawar has stated that it was a case of robbery and kidnapping the crew for ransom.
He has stated that the Fisheries Act or any provision of the law does not permit the general public to confiscate the fishing boats.
The association has demanded that the police should conduct a thorough investigation and reveal the truth so that no trawler owner falls prey to such tricks of extorting money by making false charges.
