CANACONA: Almost half of Agonda village had to go without power supply on Friday morning, after a huge branch of a mango tree came crashing down on electrical alignment at Karashir Moll, Agonda.
The power was restored by 1 pm, after rebuilding the completely snapped 33 KV alignment.
The branch which was full of raw mangoes came down on the electricity alignment at about 10.20 am, totally snapping the line and partly blocking the village road.
As some alignments lay strewn on the roadside, electricity officials quickly switched off the main supply to the village to avert any eventuality. Later, the power supply to the rest of the village was restored, as only the Karashir-Moll transformer kept de-energized and electricity staff took the restoration and rebuilding works of the completely dismantled alignment on war footing.
The electricity staff came for special praise from former Agonda sarpanch Jovi Fernandes as the supply was finally restored by 1 pm. “Electricity department often blamed for prolonged power disruption, was however at its best in quick response and even its quicker restoration works, by pulling back the dismantled overhead alignment and restoring the supply in less than two-and-half hours,” Fernandes told Herald.
Incidentally, soon after the restoration, high voltage damaged electrical gadgets like TVs, DVDs, fridges, etc.
