MERCES: The house belonging to the Khandolkar family at Chinchwada-Chimbel was partially damaged after a huge mango tree came crashing down on it early Sunday morning.
Panjim station fire officer Harichandra Naik, who was leading the salvage operation, informed Herald that they received a call at about 8.17 am and rushed to the site.
However, the salvage operation could not be immediately undertaken as the crashed tree was in a precarious position and a JCB machine was needed to secure it and prevent it from causing further damage. The JCB was provided by St Cruz MLA Babush Monserrate.
Later, the firemen with the help of the JCB machine cleared the tree and saved the house from further damage.
