CANACONA: Following heavy rainfall on Thursday, incessant and intermittent spells of rain on Friday saw many trees getting uprooted as well as water logging condition in the taluka.
Fire and emergency office informed that they had to rush to clear trees which had fallen on various roads at Barcem, Charrasta, Colomb Bhatpal; the outcome was a traffic hold up till the uprooted trees were cleared from the road by the emergency crew.
While water logging was observed at Charrasta, Chaudi, Sheller, Bhatpal, Galgibaga, Poinginim and Mashem, there were reports of water entering Lokvishwas Prashtishtan special school at Mokhardamoll in Bhatpal.
Devendra Naik, Sarpanch of the village together with Saurabh Gayak, Sunil Paingankar and
Mahendra Faldesai requisitioned an earth mover to clear an adjacent drain only after which the water receded from the rooms, sources further added.
Rain gauge observatory recorded a total of 9.36 cms of rainfall in Canacona during the 24 hour period ending at 8.30 on Friday morning taking the seasonal total to 64.22cms which is 21.41% deficit than the normal during this period.
From 8.30am to 1.00pm Canacona received 3.50cms of rain.
Sources said that the special children were sent home early due to heavy rains and water entered the school rooms at about 12.30pm on Friday.
