CALANGUTE: A huge mango tree came crashing down near the Shantadurga Temple at Pilerne following the incessant rain of the last few days, damaging the compound wall of a building complex and blocking the Pilerne-Saligao road on Saturday morning.
Also on Saturday morning, a huge tree was uprooted at Bhattiwaddo, Arpora, damaging a house. In both incidents, firefighters from the Pilerne Fire Station rushed to the spot and cleared the debris.
A number of other minor incidents of trees falling were also reported in the Calangute-Candolim coastal belt due to the heavy rains in the last couple of days, according to Pilerne Fire Station officials. “There have been no major incidents,” they said.
