CANACONA: In a dramatic turn of events, both main roads leading to Cotigao village were obstructed by fallen trees following the pre-monsoon showers that swept through the area, rendering the village temporarily inaccessible.
The neighbouring villages of Cotigao and Gaondongrim experienced heavy rainfall. Soon after the rains ceased, a massive gulmohar tree fell across the road from Partagal to Cotigao at Dabel in Poinguinim, creating a blockade.
Similarly, another tree, known for its sap that causes itching upon contact with skin, fell across the road from Gaondongrim to Cotigao at Mane, completely obstructing access.
A bus traveling from Gaondongrim to Cotigao was forced to stop, and passengers had to walk the remaining distance to reach their destination. The sudden blockages caused considerable inconvenience to the residents, who are mostly tribal and have a deep understanding of nature’s patterns, often predicting the weather by observing the skies.
The residents expressed their surprise at the trees falling post-rain.
